✧ Ubayy b. Khalaf came on the day of Uhud toward the Prophet ﷺ, intending to attack him. Men among the believers intercepted him, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered them to clear his way. Then Mus'ab b. Umayr, the brother of Banu Abd al-Dar, confronted him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw Ubayy's collarbone through a gap between the long coat of mail and the helmet, so he thrust him with his spear. Ubayy fell from his horse, and no blood came from his wound; it broke one of his ribs. His companions came to him while he was bellowing like a bull. They said to him, "What ails you? It is only a scratch." He mentioned to them the saying of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: "Rather, I will kill Ubayy." Then he said, "By Him in whose hand is my soul, if what I have were inflicted on the people of Dhu al-Majaz, they would all die." Ubayy died, heading to the Fire—so away with the companions of the Blaze—before reaching Makkah. Then Allah revealed: {You did not throw when you threw, but Allah threw} [Al-Anfal 17], the verse.
