حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ ثنا مُحَاضِرُ بْنُ الْمُوَرِّعِ ثنا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ قَارِئًا يَقْرَأُ {يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَابْتَغُوا إِلَيْهِ الْوَسِيلَةَ} [المائدة 35] قَالَ الْقُرْبَةَ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَقَدْ عَلِمَ الْمَحْفُوظُونَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ أَنَّ ابْنَ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ مِنْ أَقْرَبِهِمْ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَسِيلَةً على شرط البخاري ومسلم

Translation

✧ He heard a reciter reciting {O you who believe, fear Allah and seek the means to Him} [Al-Ma'idah: 35]. He said: the nearness. Then he said: The knowledgeable ones among the companions of Muhammad ﷺ knew that Ibn Umm Abd (Abdullah b. Mas'ud) was among the closest of them to Allah as a means. On the condition of Al-Bukhari and Muslim.
