Chain of narrators
  1. Aḥmad b. Jaʿfar al-Qaṭīʿī
  2. ʿAbdullāh b. Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal
  3. my father

✧ And Abu Ali al-Hafiz narrated to us, Abu Ya'la informed us, Abu Khaythama narrated to us, they said: Ya'qub b. Ibrahim b. Sa'd narrated to us, my father narrated to us from Ibn Ishaq. And Abu al-Hasan Muhammad b. Abdullah al-Jawhari informed me, Muhammad b. Ishaq narrated to us, Muhammad b. Ya'la narrated to us, Yahya narrated to us, Ya'la b. Ubayd al-Tanafisi and Ahmad b. Khalid al-Wahbi narrated to us, they said: Muhammad b. Ishaq narrated to us. And Muhammad b. al-Muzaffar al-Hafiz informed me, Muhammad b. Harun narrated to us, Sulayman b. Umar narrated to us, Yahya b. Sa'id al-Umawi narrated to us from Muhammad b. Ishaq. And Abu Amr Muhammad b. Ahmad b. Ishaq al-Adl informed me, Muhammad b. Khuzaym al-Dimashqi narrated to us, Hisham b. Ammar narrated to us, he said: Sa'id b. Yahya al-Lakhmi narrated to me, Ibn Ishaq narrated to us. And Ali b. Isa narrated to me, and the wording is his: Musaddad b. Qatan narrated to us, Uthman b. Abi Shayba narrated to us, Ya'la b. Ubayd narrated to us, Muhammad b. Ishaq narrated to us from al-Zuhri, from Muhammad b. Jubayr b. Mut'im, from his father, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood at al-Khayf in Mina and said: 'May Allah brighten [the face of] a servant who hears my words, memorizes them, then conveys them to one who has not heard them. For many a bearer of understanding has no understanding, and many a bearer of understanding conveys it to one who has more understanding than him. Three things: a believer's heart does not harbor rancor regarding them: sincerity of action for Allah, good counsel to those in authority, and adherence to the community, for their supplication encompasses those behind them.' These trustworthy narrators agreed upon transmitting this hadith from Muhammad b. Ishaq from al-Zuhri. Abdullah b. Numayr alone contradicted them, saying: from Muhammad b. Ishaq from Abd al-Salam, who is Ibn Abi al-Janub, from al-Zuhri. Ibn Numayr is trustworthy, and Allah knows best. Then we examined it and found for al-Zuhri a corroborating narrator from Muhammad b. Jubayr.
