✧ A man died, so we washed him, shrouded him, embalmed him, and placed him for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ where funeral biers are placed, near the Station of Jibril. Then we notified the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to pray over him, and he came with us step by step. Then he said, "Perhaps your companion has a debt?" They said, "Yes, two dinars." So he held back. A man among us called Abu Qatada said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, they are upon me." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ began to say, "They are upon you and from your wealth, and the deceased is free of them." He said, "Yes." So he prayed over him. Then whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ met Abu Qatada, he would say, "What have the two dinars done?" until the last time he said, "I have paid them off, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Now, when his skin has cooled."
