✧ We were a people who called ourselves brokers, and we used to sell in al-Baqi'. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us and called us by a name better than our own name, saying, "O company of merchants, this selling is attended by lying and oaths, so mix it with charity."
Notes
machine translationThis is a ḥadīth with a sound chain (ṣaḥīḥ al-isnād), and the two Shaykhs did not include it in their collections, «because of what I mentioned earlier, that Abū Wāʾil was alone in narrating from Qays b. Abī Gharazah. Likewise it was narrated by Manṣūr b. al-Muʿtamir, al-Mughīrah b. Miqsam and Ḥabīb b. Abī Thābit, from Abū Wāʾil.» Sound (ṣaḥīḥ).
