✧ No people sit in a gathering in which there is much idle talk, and then one of them says before he rises: 'Glory be to You, O Allah, our Lord, and with Your praise. There is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and I turn to You in repentance,' except that he is forgiven for whatever was in that gathering.

machine translation"This chain is authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) according to the criterion of Muslim, except that al-Bukhārī found it defective with the report of Wuhayb, from Mūsā b. ʿUqbah, from Suhayl, from his father, from Kaʿb al-Aḥbār, as his own saying. And God knows best." This hadith has corroborating reports (shawāhid) from Jubayr b. Muṭʿim, Abū Barzah al-Aslamī, and Rāfiʿ b. Khadīj.

  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationThis is an error. Wuhayb narrated it from Suhayl, from ʿAwn b. ʿAbdullāh, as a statement of a Companion or Follower (mawqūf), and this is more authentic.

  • al-Bukhari

machine translationThis is a fine hadith, and I do not know of any other hadith in the world with this chain besides this one, except that it is defective (maʿlūl).

  • Abū ʿAbdullāh al-Ḥākim
