أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَمْرَوَيْهِ الصَّفَّارُ بِبَغْدَادَ وَثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الصَّغَانِيُّ ثنا الْأَحْوَصُ بْنُ جَوَّابٍ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ الْجَعْدِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ قُرَيْشًا قَالَتْ يَا مُحَمَّدُ ادْعُ رَبَّكَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَ الصَّفَا ذَهَبًا وَنُؤْمِنُ لَكَ فَقَالَ
رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «أَتَفْعَلُونُ؟» قَالُوا نَعَمْ فَأَتَى جِبْرِيلُ فَقَالَ اسْتَوْثِقْ ثُمَّ أُتِيَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ أَعْطَاكَ مَا سَأَلْتَ إِنْ شِئْتَ أَصْبَحَ لَكَ الصَّفَا ذَهَبًا وَمَنْ كَفَرَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ عَذَّبْتُهُ عَذَابًا لَا أُعَذِّبُهُ أَحَدًا مِنَ الْعَالَمِينَ وَإِنْ شِئْتَ فَتَحْتُ لَهُمْ بَابَ التَّوْبَةِ وَالْإِنَابَةِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «بَابُ التَّوْبَةِ وَالرَّحْمَةِ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ» «هَذَا الْوَهْمُ لَا يُوهِنُ حَدِيثَ الثَّوْرِيِّ فَإِنِّي لَا أَعْرِفُ عِمْرَانَ بْنَ الْجَعْدِ فِي التَّابِعِينَ وَإِنَّمَا رَوَى إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ فَأَمَّا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ الْجَعْدِ فَإِنَّهُ مِنْ أَتْبَاعِ التَّابِعِينَ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Will you do it?" They said: 'Yes.' Then Gabriel came and said: 'Secure it.' Then Gabriel came and said: 'O Muhammad, Allah has granted you what you asked. If you wish, the Safa will turn to gold for you, and whoever disbelieves after that I will punish with a punishment I have not inflicted on anyone in the worlds. If you wish, I will open for them the door of repentance and return.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The door of repentance and mercy is dearer to me." "This confusion does not weaken al-Thawri's hadith, for I do not know 'Imran b. al-Ja'd among the Successors; rather Isma'il b. Abi Khalid narrated from 'Imran b. Abi al-Ja'd. As for 'Imran b. al-Ja'd, he is from the followers of the Successors."
