✧ On the day of Uhud, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by Hamza b. 'Abd al-Muttalib, who had been mutilated and disfigured. He said: 'Were it not that Safiyya would grieve, I would have left him so that Allah would gather him from the bellies of birds and beasts.' He shrouded him in a striped cloak: when his head was covered, his feet showed, and when his feet were covered, his head showed. He covered his head. He did not pray over any of the martyrs other than him, and he said: 'I am a witness over you today.' He would gather three and two [martyrs] in one grave and ask: 'Which of them knew more of the Quran?' and he would put him first in the niche. He shrouded two and three men in a single cloth.

غلط فيه أسامة بن زيد فرواه عن الزهري عن أنس ورجحوا رواية الليث عن الزهري عن عبد الرحمن بن كعب بن مالك عن جابر
machine translationUsāmah b. Zayd made a mistake in it, for he narrated it from al-Zuhrī, from Anas. They preferred the narration of al-Layth from al-Zuhrī, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Kaʿb b. Mālik, from Jābir.

اختلف على ابن شهاب في هذا الحديث اختلافا كثيرا ورواية الليث لعلها الليثي وهو أسامة بن زيد الليثي المذكور في الإسناد عندهم بالصواب أولى
machine translationThere is much disagreement about Ibn Shihāb in this hadith. The narration of al-Layth, perhaps al-Laythī, who is Usāmah b. Zayd al-Laythī mentioned in the chain of transmission according to them, is more deserving of being correct.
