حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الصَّغَانِيُّ ثنا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ ثنا فُلَيْحُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ السَّبَّاقِ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ قَالَ

كُنَّا مُقَدَّمَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِذَا حُضِرَ مِنَّا الْمَيِّتُ آذَنَّا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَحَضَرَهُ وَاسْتَغْفَرَ لَهُ حَتَّى إِذَا قَدِمْنَا انْصَرَفَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَمَنْ مَعَهُ وَرُبَّمَا قَعَدُوا حَتَّى يُدْفَنَ وَرُبَّمَا طَالَ حَبْسُ ذَلِكَ عَلَى نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا خَشِينَا مَشَقَّةَ ذَلِكَ قَالَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ لِبَعْضٍ لَوْ كُنَّا لَا نُؤْذِنُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ بِأَحَدٍ حَتَّى يُقْبَضَ فَإِذَا قُبِضَ آذَنَّاهُ فَلَمْ يَكُنْ فِي ذَلِكَ مَشَقَّةٌ وَلَا حَبْسٌ فَكُنَّا نُؤْذِنُهُ بِالْمَيِّتِ بَعْدَ أَنْ يَمُوتَ فَيَأْتِيهِ فَيُصَلِّي عَلَيْهِ

✧ We were in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ, and when one of us was near death we would inform the Prophet ﷺ, and he would attend him and seek forgiveness for him until we arrived. Then the Prophet ﷺ and those with him would leave, and sometimes they would sit until the burial. Sometimes that detention became long for the Prophet of Allah ﷺ. When we feared the hardship of that, some of the people said to others, "If only we did not inform the Prophet ﷺ about anyone until he had died; then when he died we would inform him, and there would be no hardship or detention in that." So we would inform him of the deceased after he had died, and he would come and pray over him.
