فَحَدَّثَنَاهُ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْحَافِظُ ثنا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ نَصْرٍ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ الْوَرْدِ ثنا أَبِي ثنا عَدِيُّ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ
«الْوِتْرُ حَقٌّ» فَذَكَرَهُ بِنَحْوِهِعدي تركوه

✧ That the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, "Witr (odd number of units for prayer) is a right (obligation)." So he mentioned it in this way and they left it.

يرويه الزهري واختلف عنه في رفعه فرواه بكر بن وائل والأوزاعي والزبيدي ومحمد بن أبي حفصة وسفيان بن حسين ومحمد بن إسحاق عن الزهري مرفوعا إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ورواه أشعث بن سوار عن الزهري فشك في رفعه واختلف عن يونس فرواه حرملة عن ابن وهب عن يونس مرفوعا وخالفه ابن أخي ابن وهب عن عمه عن يونس فوقفه وتابعه عثمان بن عمر عن يونس واختلف عن معمر فرفعه عدي بن الفضل عن معمر ووقفه حماد بن زيد وابن علية وعبد الأعلى وعبد الرزاق عنه واختلف عن ابن عيينة فرفعه محمد بن حسان الأزرق عنه ووقفه الحميدي وقتيبة وسعيد بن منصور والذين وقفوه عن معمر أثبت ممن رفعه
machine translationAl-Zuhrī narrates it, and there is disagreement about him over whether it is raised (marfūʿ). Bakr b. Wāʾil, al-Awzāʿī, al-Zubaydī, Muḥammad b. Abī Ḥafṣah, Sufyān b. Ḥusayn and Muḥammad b. Isḥāq narrated it from al-Zuhrī as raised to the Prophet ﷺ. Ashʿath b. Sawwār narrated it from al-Zuhrī and doubted whether it was raised. There is disagreement about Yūnus: Ḥarmalah narrated it from Ibn Wahb from Yūnus as raised, but the son of Ibn Wahb's brother contradicted him, from his uncle from Yūnus, and made it stopped (mawqūf), and ʿUthmān b. ʿUmar followed him from Yūnus. There is disagreement about Maʿmar: ʿAdī b. al-Faḍl raised it from Maʿmar, while Ḥammād b. Zayd, Ibn ʿUlayyah, ʿAbd al-Aʿlā and ʿAbd al-Razzāq made it stopped from him. There is disagreement about Ibn ʿUyaynah: Muḥammad b. Ḥassān al-Azraq raised it from him, while al-Ḥumaydī, Qutaybah and Saʿīd b. Manṣūr made it stopped. Those who made it stopped from Maʿmar are more reliable than those who raised it.
