✧ The Expedition of Ṣafwān, which is the First Expedition of Badr [the Raid of Kurz and the Going Out in Pursuit of Him]. Ibn Isḥāq said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not remain in Madinah when he came from the expedition of al-ʿUshayrah except a few nights, not reaching ten, until Kurz b. Jābir al-Fihrī raided the pasturing livestock of Madinah. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out in pursuit of him, and he appointed over Madinah Zayd b. Ḥārithah, according to what Ibn Hishām said.

✧ [THE ESCAPE OF KURZ AND THE RETURN WITHOUT WAR] Ibn Isḥāq said: He went on until he reached a valley called Safawān, on the side of Badr. Kurz b. Jābir had eluded him, and he did not catch up with him. This is the expedition of Badr the first. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ returned to Madinah and remained there for the rest of Jumādā al-Ākhirah, Rajab, and Shaʿbān.
