41. The expedition of Waddān, which is the first of his expeditions (peace be upon him)

   غَزْوَةُ وَدَّانَ وَهِيَ أَوَّلُ غَزَوَاتِهِ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ [ مُوَادَعَةُ بَنِي ضَمْرَةَ وَالرُّجُوعُ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَرْبٍ ] قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: حَتَّى بَلَغَ وَدَّانَ، وَهِيَ غَزْوَةُ الْأَبْوَاءِ، يُرِيدُ قُرَيْشًا وَبَنِيَّ ضَمْرَةَ بْنِ بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ مَنَاةَ بْنِ كِنَانَةَ، فَوَادَعَتْهُ فِيهَا بَنُو ضَمْرَةَ، وَكَانَ الَّذِي وَادَعَهُ مِنْهُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ مَخْشِيُّ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الضَّمَرِيُّ، وَكَانَ سَيِّدَهُمْ فِي زَمَانِهِ ذَلِكَ. ثُمَّ رَجَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إلَى الْمَدِينَةِ، وَلَمْ يَلْقَ كَيْدًا، فَأَقَامَ بِهَا بَقِيَّةَ صَفَرٍ، وَصَدْرًا مِنْ شَهْرِ رَبِيعٍ الْأَوَّلِ. قَالَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ: وَهِيَ أَوَّلُ غَزْوَةٍ غَزَاهَا.

   ✧ The expedition of Waddan, which was his first expedition, ﷺ [The peace treaty with Banu Damrah and the return without war] Ibn Ishaq said: Until he reached Waddan, which is the expedition of al-Abwa', intending Quraysh and Banu Damrah b. Bakr b. 'Abd Manat b. Kinanah. In it, Banu Damrah made peace with him, and the one who made peace with him on their behalf was Makhshiyy b. 'Amr al-Damari, who was their chief at that time. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ returned to Madinah, having met no hostility, and stayed there for the remainder of Safar and the beginning of the month of Rabi' al-Awwal. Ibn Hisham said: It was the first expedition he undertook.
