✧ THE REVELATION OF 'And messengers before you were certainly mocked' [THE STATEMENT OF AL-WALĪD AND HIS COMPANIONS, AND THE REVELATION OF THIS VERSE] Ibn Isḥāq said: The Messenger of God ﷺ passed—according to what reached me—by al-Walīd b. al-Mughīrah, Umayyah b. Khalaf, and Abū Jahl b. Hishām, and they taunted him and mocked him, and that angered him. So God Almighty sent down upon him concerning that matter of theirs: 'And messengers before you were certainly mocked, but those who scoffed at them were enveloped by what they used to ridicule.'
