He brought them to the Messenger of God ﷺ when they responded to him, and they became Muslim and prayed. The Messenger of God ﷺ used to say, according to what has reached me: I have not called anyone to Islam but that there was some hesitation, consideration, and wavering in him, except what was from Abū Bakr b. Abī Quḥāfah: he did not linger when I mentioned it to him, and he did not waver in it. Ibn Hishām said: His saying “through his call” is from other than Ibn Isḥāq. Ibn Hishām said: His saying “ʿakama” means “he lingered.” Ruʾbah b. al-ʿAjjāj said: “And he turned away, leaping with it, and did not linger.” Ibn Isḥāq said: These eight individuals were those who preceded the people to Islam: they prayed and believed the Messenger of God ﷺ in what came to him from God.

✧ The Islam of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq ؓ and his account [his lineage] Ibn Ishaq said: Then Abu Bakr b. Abi Quhafah accepted Islam. His name was ʿAtiq, and the name of Abu Quhafah was ʿUthman b. ʿAmir b. ʿAmr b. Kaʿb b. Saʿd b. Taym b. Murrah b. Kaʿb b. Luʾayy b. Ghalib b. Fihr. Ibn Hisham said: Abu Bakr’s name was ʿAbd Allah, and ʿAtiq was a nickname because of his handsome face and his noble lineage. [His Islam] Ibn Ishaq said: When Abu Bakr ؓ accepted Islam, he made his Islam public and called to Allah and to His Messenger. [His position among Quraysh and his call to Islam] Abu Bakr was a man beloved by his people, amiable and easy-going. He was the most knowledgeable of Quraysh about their genealogies and the most learned among them about what was in them of good and evil. He was a merchant, a man of good character and kindness. The men of his people used to come to him and seek his company for more than one reason, because of his knowledge, his trade, and his good conversation. So he began calling to Allah and to Islam those of his people whom he trusted, among those who visited him and sat with him.
