23. Advising
عَنْ أَبِيهِ كَانَ عُمَرُ يَقُولُ لِبَنِيهِ إِذَا أَصْبَحْتُمْ فَتَبَدَّدُوا وَلاَ تَجْتَمِعُوا فِي دَارٍ وَاحِدَةٍ فَإِنِّي أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَنْ تَقَاطَعُوا أَوْ يَكُونَ بَيْنَكُمْ شَرٌّ
✧ From his father: ʿUmar used to say to his sons: "When you wake up, separate and do not gather in a single house, for I fear that you will sever ties or that evil will arise between you."
فَقَالَ لَهُ وَيْحَكَ يَا رَاعِي حَوِّلْهَا فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ كُلُّ رَاعٍ مَسْئُولٌ عَنْ رَعِيَّتِهِ
✧ He said to him: "Woe to you, O shepherd! Turn her away, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Every shepherd is responsible for his flock.'"
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لَيْسَ لَنَا مَثَلُ السَّوْءِ الْعَائِدُ فِي هِبَتِهِ كَالْكَلْبِ يَرْجِعُ فِي قَيْئِهِ
✧ From the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "The bad example is not ours: the one who takes back his gift is like a dog that returns to its vomit."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْمُؤْمِنُ غِرٌّ كَرِيمٌ وَالْفَاجِرُ خَبٌّ لَئِيمٌ
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The believer is simple and noble, and the wicked is deceitful and vile."
