10. Supervision
قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ كُلُّكُمْ رَاعٍ وَكُلُّكُمْ مَسْؤولٌ عَنْ رَعِيَّتِهِ فَالأَمِيرُ رَاعٍ وَهُوَ مَسْؤُولٌ وَالرَّجُلُ رَاعٍ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ وَهُوَ مَسْؤُولٌ وَالْمَرْأَةُ رَاعِيَةٌ عَلَى بَيْتِ زَوْجِهَا وَهِيَ مَسْؤُولَةٌ أَلاَ وَكُلُّكُمْ رَاعٍ وَكُلُّكُمْ مَسْؤُولٌ عَنْ رَعِيَّتِهِ
✧ The Prophet ﷺ said, "Each of you is a shepherd, and each of you is responsible for his flock. The ruler is a shepherd and is responsible. A man is a shepherd over his family and is responsible. A woman is a shepherd over her husband's household and is responsible. Indeed, each of you is a shepherd and each of you is responsible for his flock."
أَتَيْنَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَنَحْنُ شَبَبَةٌ مُتَقَارِبُونَ، فَأَقَمْنَا عِنْدَهُ عِشْرِينَ لَيْلَةً، فَظَنَّ أَنَّا اشْتَهَيْنَا أَهْلِينَا، فَسَأَلْنَا عَنْ مَنْ تَرَكْنَا فِي أَهْلِينَا؟ فَأَخْبَرْنَاهُ، وَكَانَ رَفِيقًا رَحِيمًا، فَقَالَ: ارْجِعُوا إِلَى أَهْلِيكُمْ فَعَلِّمُوهُمْ وَمُرُوهُمْ، وَصَلُّوا كَمَا رَأَيْتُمُونِي أُصَلِّي، فَإِذَا حَضَرَتِ الصَّلاَةُ، فَلْيُؤَذِّنْ لَكُمْ أَحَدُكُمْ، وَلْيَؤُمَّكُمْ أَكْبَرُكُمْ.
"We came to the Prophet ﷺ being young men of a similar age. We spent twenty nights with him. He thought that we desired our own people and he asked us about those of our family we had left behind, and we told him. He was merciful and kind, and said, 'Go back to your family. Instruct and command them. Pray as you have seen me praying. When it is time for the prayer, then let one of you give the adhan and let the oldest of you lead the payer.;:
أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ كُلُّكُمْ رَاعٍ وَكُلُّكُمْ مَسْؤُولٌ عَنْ رَعِيَّتِهِ الإِمَامُ رَاعٍ وَهُوَ مَسْؤُولٌ عَنْ رَعِيَّتِهِ وَالرَّجُلُ رَاعٍ فِي أَهْلِهِ وَالْمَرْأَةُ رَاعِيَةٌ فِي بَيْتِ زَوْجِهَا وَالْخَادِمُ فِي مَالِ سَيِّدِهِ سَمِعْتُ هَؤُلاَءِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَأَحْسَبُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ وَالرَّجُلُ فِي مَالِ أَبِيهِ
✧ He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Each of you is a shepherd, and each of you is responsible for his flock. The imam is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock. A man is a shepherd over his family, a woman is a shepherd over her husband's household, and a servant is a shepherd over his master's property." I heard these from the Prophet ﷺ, and I think the Prophet ﷺ also said, "And a man is a shepherd over his father's property."
قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَنْ صُنِعَ إِلَيْهِ مَعْرُوفٌ فَلْيُجْزِئْهُ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ مَا يُجْزِئُهُ فَلْيُثْنِ عَلَيْهِ فَإِنَّهُ إِذَا أَثْنَى فَقَدْ شَكَرَهُ وَإِنْ كَتَمَهُ فَقَدْ كَفَرَهُ وَمَنْ تَحَلَّى بِمَا لَمْ يُعْطَ فَكَأَنَّمَا لَبِسَ ثَوْبَيْ زُورٍ
✧ The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever is shown a favour should repay it. If he cannot find anything to repay it with, he should praise the one who did it. If he praises him, he has thanked him, but if he conceals it, he has been ungrateful. Whoever pretends to have been given what he was not given is like one who wears two garments of falsehood."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنِ اسْتَعَاذَ بِاللَّهِ فَأَعِيذُوهُ وَمَنْ سَأَلَ بِاللَّهِ فَأَعْطُوهُ وَمَنْ أَتَى إِلَيْكُمْ مَعْرُوفًا فَكَافِئُوهُ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدُوا فَادْعُوا لَهُ حَتَّى يَعْلَمَ أَنْ قَدْ كَافَأْتُمُوهُ
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever seeks refuge in Allah, grant him refuge. Whoever asks by Allah, give him. Whoever does you a favour, repay him. If you cannot find anything, supplicate for him until you know that you have repaid him."
أَنَّ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ذَهَبَ الأَنْصَارُ بِالأَجْرِ كُلِّهِ؟ قَالَ لاَ مَا دَعَوْتُمُ اللَّهَ لَهُمْ وَأَثْنَيْتُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ بِهِ
✧ The Muhājirūn said, "O Messenger of Allah, the Anṣār have taken all the reward?" He said, "No, not as long as you supplicate to Allah for them and praise them for it."
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لاَ يَشْكُرُ اللَّهَ مَنْ لاَ يَشْكُرُ النَّاسَ
✧ The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever does not thank people does not thank Allah."
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ قَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى لِلنَّفَسِ اخْرُجِي قَالَتْ لاَ أَخْرُجُ إِلاَّ كَارِهَةً
✧ The Prophet ﷺ said, "Allah, Exalted is He, says to the soul, 'Come out.' It says, 'I will not come out except unwillingly.'"
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قِيلَ أَيُّ الأَعْمَالِ خَيْرٌ؟ قَالَ إِيمَانٌ بِاللَّهِ وَجِهَادٌ فِي سَبِيلِهِ قِيلَ فَأَيُّ الرِّقَابِ أَفْضَلُ؟ قَالَ أَغْلاَهَا ثَمَنًا وَأَنْفَسُهَا عِنْدَ أَهْلِهَا قَالَ أَفَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ لَمْ أَسْتَطِعْ بَعْضَ الْعَمَلِ؟ قَالَ فَتُعِينُ ضَائِعًا أَوْ تَصْنَعُ لأَخْرَقَ قَالَ أَفَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ ضَعُفْتُ؟ قَالَ تَدَعُ النَّاسَ مِنَ الشَّرِّ فَإِنَّهَا صَدَقَةٌ تَصَدَّقُ بِهَا عَلَى نَفْسِكَ
✧ The Prophet ﷺ was asked, "Which deeds are best?" He said, "Faith in Allah and jihad in His path." It was asked, "Which slaves are best?" He said, "The most expensive in price and the most precious to their owners." He said, "What do you think if I cannot do some of the work?" He said, "Then help a lost person, or work for a clumsy person." He said, "What do you think if I am too weak?" He said, "Then refrain from harming people, for that is a charity you give to yourself."
