✧ The Blame for Seeking Knowledge for Other than Allah

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ أَنَّ أَبَا فَرْوَةَ حَدَّثَهُ

أَنَّ عِيسَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ كَانَ يَقُولُ «لَا تَمْنَعِ الْعِلْمَ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ فَتَأْثَمَ وَلَا تَنْشُرْهُ عِنْدَ غَيْرِ أَهْلِهِ فَتُجَهَّلَ وَكُنْ طَبِيبًا رَفِيقًا يَضَعُ دَوَاءَهُ حَيْثُ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ يَنْفَعُ»

Translation

✧ Jesus son of Mary ﷺ used to say: 'Do not withhold knowledge from its people, lest you sin. Do not spread it among other than its people, lest you be considered ignorant. Be a gentle physician who places his medicine where he knows it will benefit.'
