✧ Umar b. al-Khattab sent a group of the Ansar to Kufah, and he sent me with them. He walked with us until he reached Sirar, and Sirar is water on the road to Madinah. He began to shake the dust from his feet, then said, 'You are going to Kufah, and you will come to a people who have a humming with the Quran. They will come to you and say, "The companions of Muhammad have arrived! The companions of Muhammad have arrived!" They will come to you and ask you about hadith. Know that the most complete ablution is three times, and two suffice.' Then he said, 'You are going to Kufah, and you will come to a people who have a humming with the Quran. They will say, "The companions of Muhammad have arrived! The companions of Muhammad have arrived!" They will come to you and ask you about hadith. So narrate little from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I am your partner in that.' Qarazah said, 'I used to sit among a group who would mention hadith from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I was among those who had memorized it best, but when I remembered Umar's instruction, I remained silent.'
