✧ He narrated that when the Prophet ﷺ returned from the Umrah of al-Ji'ranah, he sent Abu Bakr as leader of the Hajj. We set out with him until when we were at al-'Arj, the call for the morning prayer was given. When he stood to say the takbir, he heard the grunting of a camel behind him, so he paused from the takbir and said, "This is the grunting of the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ camel al-Jad'a'. It seems that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has changed his mind about the Hajj, so perhaps it is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we may pray with him." But it was 'Ali on it. Abu Bakr said, "Are you a commander or a messenger?" He said, "No, rather a messenger. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me with Bara'ah to recite to the people at the stations of Hajj." We arrived at Makkah, and one day before the day of Tarwiyah, Abu Bakr stood and addressed the people, teaching them their rituals. When he had finished, 'Ali stood and recited Bara'ah to the people until he completed it. Then we went out with him until the day of 'Arafah. Abu Bakr stood and addressed the people, teaching them their rituals. When he had finished, 'Ali stood and recited Bara'ah to the people until he completed it. Then on the day of sacrifice we departed. When Abu Bakr returned, he addressed the people, teaching them about their departure, their sacrifice, and their rituals. When he had finished, 'Ali stood and recited Bara'ah to the people until he completed it. On the first day of departure, Abu Bakr stood and addressed the people, telling them how to depart and how to stone, and he taught them their rituals. When he had finished, 'Ali stood and recited Bara'ah to the people until he completed it.
