✧ Truly the people of desires are the people of misguidance, and I do not see their fate except to be in the Fire. So test them: not one of them adopts a saying or relates a narration but that the matter ends with him short of the sword. Indeed hypocrisy was of various kinds—then he recited: {And among them are those who made a covenant with Allah, "If He gives us from His bounty, we will surely give charity and be among the righteous"} [al-Tawbah: 75], {And among them are those who criticize you concerning the charities. If they are given from them, they are pleased; but if they are not given from them, at once they become angry} [al-Tawbah: 58], {And among them are those who harm the Prophet and say, "He is an ear." Say, "An ear of good for you"} [al-Tawbah: 61]. Their statements differed, but they agreed in doubt and denial. Indeed these—their statements differed, but they agreed in the sword, and I do not see their fate except to be in the Fire.
