The Prophet ﷺ was in the house of ʿĀʾishah, and with him were some of his wives, waiting for a little food. He said: Then she outstripped her — ʿImrān said: my strongest assumption is that he said Ḥafṣah — with a bowl containing tharīd. He said: So she set it down. Then ʿĀʾishah came out and took the bowl — he said: and that was before they were veiled — and she struck it with it, and it broke. Then the Prophet of Allah ﷺ took it in his hand and gathered it together, and he said with his palm — ʿImrān was describing that — and he said: "Your mother was jealous." When he had finished, he sent the bowl to Ḥafṣah and sent the broken one to ʿĀʾishah. So it became the ruling that whoever breaks something, it is his, and he owes the like of it.

  • أبو زرعة الرازي

هذا خطأ رواه حماد بن سلمة عن ثابت عن أبي المتوكل أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وهذا الصحيح

machine translationThis is a mistake. Ḥammād b. Salamah narrated it from Thābit from Abū al-Mutawakkil that the Prophet ﷺ, and this is the correct one.

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 4304
  • Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī

إسناد الطبراني أصح من إسناد الدارقطني وهو أصح ما جاء في ذلك

machine translationThe chain of transmission of al-Ṭabarānī is sounder than the chain of al-Dāraquṭnī, and it is the soundest of what has come on that subject.

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 4304
  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

حديث الشقص أصح من حديث القصعة فهو أولى

machine translationThe hadith of the share (al-shiqṣ) is more authentic than the hadith of the large bowl (al-qaṣʿah), so it is preferable.
