حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ

قَالَ جَاءَنَا كِتَابُ عُمَرَ وَنَحْنُ بِخَانِقِينَ إِنَّ الْأَهِلَّةَ بَعْضُهَا أَكْبَرُ مِنْ مِنِ بَعْضٍ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْهِلَالَ نَهَارًا فَلَا تُفْطِرُوا حَتَّى تُمْسُوا إِلَّا أَنْ يَشْهَدَ رَجُلَانِ مُسْلِمَانِ أَنَّهُمَا أَهَلَّاهُ بِالْأَمْسِ عَشِيَّةً

Translation

✧ He said: Umar's letter came to us while we were at Khanqin: “The crescents are some larger than others. If you see the crescent during the day, do not break your fast until evening, unless two Muslim men testify that they sighted it yesterday evening.”
