حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ثنا حَاجِبُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ثنا مُؤَمَّلُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ حَدَّثَنِي مَنْصُورٌ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ قَالَ
جَاءَنَا كِتَابُ عُمَرَ وَنَحْنُ بِخَانِقِينَ إِنَّ الْأَهِلَّةَ بَعْضُهَا أَعْظَمُ مِنْ بَعْضٍ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْهِلَالَ لِأَوَّلِ النَّهَارِ فَلَا تُفْطِرُوا حَتَّى يَشْهَدَ رَجُلَانِ ذَوَا عَدْلٍ أَنَّهُمَا أَهَلَّاهُ بِالْأَمْسِ عَشِيَّةً

✧ Umar's letter came to us while we were at Khanqin: “The crescents are some greater than others. If you see the crescent at the beginning of the day, do not break your fast until two upright men testify that they sighted it yesterday evening.”
