He said: These are the obligatory alms (ṣadaqah) of the Muslims which Allah commanded His Messenger ﷺ to collect. Whoever among the believers is asked for it according to its proper requirement, let him give it; and whoever is asked for more than that, let him not give it. For every twenty-four camels or fewer, sheep are due: one sheep for every five. When they reach twenty-five up to thirty-five, a bint makhāḍ (a one-year-old she-camel) is due; if there is no bint makhāḍ, then a male ibn labūn (a two-year-old male camel). When they reach thirty-six, a bint labūn is due, up to forty-five. When they reach forty-six, a ḥiqqah is due, up to sixty. When they reach sixty-one, a jadhaʿah is due, up to seventy-five. When they reach seventy-six, two bint labūn are due, up to ninety. When they reach ninety-one, two ḥiqqah are due, up to one hundred and twenty. When they reach one hundred and twenty-one, then for every forty a bint labūn and for every fifty a ḥiqqah. If the ages of the camels differ, and the alms due from a man is a jadhaʿah and he has no jadhaʿah but has a ḥiqqah, it is accepted from him and he gives with it two sheep, if they are easily available, or twenty dirhams. If the alms due is a ḥiqqah and he does not have it but has a jadhaʿah, it is accepted from him and the collector gives him two sheep or twenty dirhams. If the alms due from him is a ḥiqqah and he has only a bint labūn, it is accepted from him and he gives with it two sheep or twenty dirhams. Whoever's due alms is a bint labūn and he does not have a bint labūn but has a ḥiqqah, it is accepted from him and the collector gives him two sheep or twenty dirhams. If the alms due from him is a bint labūn and he does not have it but has a bint makhāḍ, it is accepted from him and he gives with it two sheep or twenty dirhams. Whoever's due alms is a bint makhāḍ and he has only a bint labūn, it is accepted from him and the collector gives him two sheep or twenty dirhams. Whoever's due alms is a bint makhāḍ and he does not have it but has a male ibn labūn, it is taken from him and nothing else is given with it. Whoever has only four camels, there is no alms due on them unless their owner wishes. When the camels reach five, a sheep is due. For grazing sheep, when they number forty up to one hundred and twenty, one sheep. When they reach one hundred and twenty-one up to two hundred, two sheep. If they exceed that by one up to three hundred, then one sheep for every hundred. No old animal, no defective animal, and no billy goat is to be given in alms, unless the collector wishes. Those that are separate are not to be combined, nor those that are together separated, for fear of the alms. What belongs to two partners, they settle between themselves equally. If the grazing sheep fall short of forty by one sheep, there is no alms due on them unless their owner wishes. On silver (al-riqqah) a quarter of a tenth is due. If there is only one hundred and ninety dirhams, there is no alms due on it unless its owner wishes. Its chain is sound (ṣaḥīḥ) and all of them are trustworthy (thiqāt).

machine translationIt is not sound (lā yaṣiḥḥ) — meaning the hadith of Thumāmah from Anas — and it is worthless, and no hadith on the alms is sound in this chapter.

machine translationA sound (ṣaḥīḥ) connected (mawṣūl) hadith. Some narrators fell short with it and narrated it from Ḥammād, who said: I took from Thumāmah a document which he claimed Abū Bakr had written for Anas. Some who claim knowledge of the narrations seized on this and said: This is disconnected (munqaṭiʿ), and you do not accept the disconnected. But ʿAbdullāh b. al-Muthannā connected it, from Thumāmah, from Anas, and you do not regard ʿAbdullāh b. al-Muthannā as a proof.
