He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had forbidden us to face the qiblah or turn our backs to it with our private parts when we relieve ourselves. Then I saw him a year before his death urinating facing the qiblah. All of them are trustworthy. Ibn Shawkar said: that one face the qiblah or turn his back to it.

- Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr
machine translationThis hadith is not authentic.
in سنن الدارقطني, p. 163 - Badr al-Dīn al-ʿAynī
machine translationAl-Ḥākim's statement that it is authentic according to the condition of Muslim is incorrect, because Abān, its narrator from Mujāhid from Jābir, is one for whom Muslim did not narrate anything, and the hadith is his and revolves around him.
in سنن الدارقطني, p. 163 - al-Bukhari
machine translationAn authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) hadith.
in سنن الدارقطني, p. 163 - Ibn Ḥazm
machine translationA weak (ḍaʿīf) hadith, because it was narrated by Abān b. Ṣāliḥ, and he is not the well-known one.

machine translationIbn Lahīʿah from Abū al-Zubayr from Jābir from Abū Qatādah is not preserved (maḥfūẓ). The hadith is well known from Jābir b. ʿAbdullāh from the Prophet ﷺ, narrated by Muḥammad b. Isḥāq from Abān b. Ṣāliḥ from Mujāhid from Jābir.

machine translationIn the chain of this hadith is Ibn Isḥāq from Abān, and Ibn Isḥāq is a concealer of defects (mudallis). When a mudallis says "from" (ʿan), he is not relied upon. So how did al-Tirmidhī grade it ḥasan?
in سنن الدارقطني, p. 163 - Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal

machine translationHe considered him weak (ḍaʿīf).
in سنن الدارقطني, p. 163 - al-Bukhari

machine translationAl-Nawawī withheld judgement on it because of Ibn Isḥāq's use of "from" (ʿanʿanah), but he explicitly stated direct narration (taḥdīth) in the narration of Aḥmad and others.
in سنن الدارقطني, p. 163 - Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī
machine translationIbn ʿAbd al-Barr weakened it because of Abān b. Ṣāliḥ, but he was mistaken in that, for he is trustworthy (thiqah) by agreement. Ibn Ḥazm claimed that he is unknown (majhūl), and he erred.
