What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal

machine translationHe declared it sound (ṣaḥḥaḥahu).

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1364
  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationIts chain is inconsistent (muḍṭarib al-isnād), and a group of the hadith scholars do not regard it as established.

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1364
  • al-Tirmidhi

machine translationFor ʿAmr b. Rāshid is a man of whom nothing is known; he narrated only this hadith, and he is not known for uprightness (ʿadālah), so his hadith is not used as evidence. As for the hadith of Ḥuṣayn, Ḥuṣayn was not a reliable memorizer (ḥāfiẓ), so his hadith is not used as evidence in a legal ruling. As for the hadith of Yazīd b. Ziyād, we know of no scholar who does not consider his reports weak, so his hadith is not used as evidence. It has also been narrated from Shamir b. ʿAṭiyyah, from Hilāl b. Yasāf, from Wābiṣah, but Hilāl did not hear from Wābiṣah, so we refrained from mentioning it because it is mursal.
