Sahih al-Bukhari 707

Whoever cuts short As-Salat (the prayer) on hearing the cries of a child.

حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُوسَى قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا الْوَلِيدُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ:

«إِنِّي لأَقُومُ فِي الصَّلاَةِ أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُطَوِّلَ فِيهَا، فَأَسْمَعُ بُكَاءَ الصَّبِيِّ فَأَتَجَوَّزُ فِي صَلاَتِي كَرَاهِيَةَ أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمِّهِ».

The Prophet ﷺ said: “I stand in prayer intending to lengthen it, but then I hear a child crying, so I make my prayer brief, out of dislike for causing hardship to his mother.”
