✧ The Angel of Death used to come to people openly. He came to Moses son of ʿImrān ﷺ, and Moses struck him and gouged out his eye. The Angel of Death ascended and said, 'O Lord, Your servant Moses did such-and-such to me, and were it not for his honor with You, I would have made it hard for him.' Allah, Blessed and Exalted, said, 'Go to Moses, My servant, and give him the choice between placing his hand on the back of an ox, and for every hair covered by his palm he will have one year, and between dying now.' He came to him and gave him the choice. Moses said, 'What after that?' He said, 'Death.' He said, 'Then now.' He said, 'So he took his soul, and Allah, Blessed and Exalted, restored his sight—meaning to the Angel of Death—and after that he came to people in concealment.'
