✧ When your rulers are the best of you, your wealthy are the generous of you, and your affairs are conducted by consultation among you, then the surface of the earth is better for you than its interior. When your rulers are the worst of you, your wealthy are the miserly of you, and your affairs are delegated to your women, then the interior of the earth is better for you than its surface.

  • Bazzār

machine translationWe do not know that anyone narrated this ḥadīth from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ except Abū Hurayrah, and we do not know of any route for it other than this one. Nor did anyone narrate it from al-Jurayrī except Ṣāliḥ al-Murrī. Ṣāliḥ was one of the devoted, diligent worshippers, and I think that his worship occupied him from memorizing ḥadīth.
