حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَعْمَرٍ، قَالَ: نَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ، قَالَ: أَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي عَوْنٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ الْحَنَفِيِّ، قَالَ:
قَالَ عَلِيٌّ لِلنَّاسِ سَلُونِي: فَقَالَ ابْنُ الْكَوَّاءِ: حَدِّثْنَا عَنِ الْأُخْتَيْنِ الْمَمْلُوكَتَيْنِ، وَعَنِ ابْنَةِ الْأَخِ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ، فَقَالَ: ذَاهِبٌ أَنْتَ فِي التِّيهِ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّمَا نَسْأَلُكَ عَمَّا لَا نَعْلَمُ، فَأَمَّا مَا نَعْلَمُ فَمَا نَسْأَلُكَ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: أَمَّا الْأُخْتَانِ الْمَمْلُوكَتَانِ فَإِنَّهُمَا حَرَّمَتْهُمَا آيَةٌ، وَأَحَلَّتْهُمَا آيَةٌ فَلَا أُحِلُّهُ، وَلَا أُحَرِّمُهُ، وَلَا آمُرُ بِهِ، وَلَا أَنْهَى عَنْهُ، وَلَا أَفْعَلُهُ أَنَا وَلَا أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِي، وَأَمَّا ابْنَةُ الْأَخِ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ فَإِنِّي ذَكَرْتُ ابْنَةَ حَمْزَةَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّهَا ابْنَةُ أَخِي مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ
Translation

✧ Ali said to the people: Ask me. Ibn al-Kawwa' said: Tell us about the two sisters who are owned as slaves, and about the daughter of the brother through breastfeeding. He said: You are wandering in error. He said: We ask you only about what we do not know; as for what we know, we do not ask you about it. He said: As for the two sisters who are owned as slaves, one verse made them forbidden and another made them permissible, so I do not make it lawful, nor forbidden, nor command it, nor forbid it, and I do not do it myself nor does anyone of my household. As for the daughter of the brother through breastfeeding, I mentioned the daughter of Hamzah to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said: "She is the daughter of my brother through breastfeeding."
