✧ Ubaydullah b. Abi Bakr b. Anas on the authority of Anas

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ، نَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ; أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ:
إِنَّ اللهَ وَكَّلَ بِالرَّحِمِ مَلَكًا فَيَقُولُ: أَيْ رَبِّ نُطْفَةٌ، أَيْ رَبِّ عَلَقَةٌ، أَيْ رَبِّ مُضْغَةٌ، فَإِذَا أَرَادَ اللهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى خَلْقَهَا، قَالَ: يَا رَبِّ ذَكَرًا أَوْ أُنْثَى، شَقِيًّا أَوْ سَعِيدًا، فَمَا الرِّزْقُ وَمَا الْأَجَلُ ؟ قَالَ: فَذَلِكَ يُكْتَبُ فِي بَطْنِ أُمِّهِ
Translation

✧ Indeed Allah has appointed an angel over the womb, and he says: 'O Lord, a drop; O Lord, a clot; O Lord, a lump of flesh.' Then when Allah, Blessed and Exalted, wills to create it, he says: 'O Lord, male or female, wretched or blessed, what is the provision and what is the lifespan?' He said: Then that is written while it is in its mother's belly.
