✧ When the Messenger of God ﷺ distributed the spoils of Ḥunayn, the Anṣār felt resentment and said: 'He divides the spoils among them while our swords are dripping with their blood.' This reached the Prophet ﷺ, so he sat in a tent of hair and sent for the Anṣār, and they came. He said: 'O company of Anṣār, is there anyone among you other than yourselves?' They said: 'No, except a son of our sister.' He said: 'The son of a people's sister is one of them.' Then he said: 'O company of Anṣār, did I not come to you while you were astray, and God guided you through me?' They said: 'Yes.' Or he said: 'Did I not find you astray, and God guided you through me? Did I not come to you while you were humiliated, and God supported you through me?' They said: 'Yes.' He said: Then he was silent for a little while, and said: 'If you wished, you could say: You came to us as one denied, and we believed you; you came to us as one expelled, and we sheltered you; you came to us as one forsaken, and we helped you. Are you not pleased that the people go with the sheep — I think he said — and the camel, while you return with the Messenger of God ﷺ to your homes?' They said: 'Yes.' He said: 'If the people took a valley and you took a mountain pass, I would take your mountain pass. And were it not for the emigration, I would have been a man of the Anṣār.'
