حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، نَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، نَا سَوَّارٌ أَبُو حَمْزَةَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ;

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ appointed al-Miqdad b. al-Aswad over a detachment of cavalry. When he came to him, he said, “How did you find it?” He said, “I saw them rising and falling until I thought that I was not that.” The Prophet ﷺ said, “That is it.” Al-Miqdad said, “By the One who sent you with the truth, I will never act as a governor over any task.” They would say to him, “Come forward and lead us in prayer,” but he would refuse.
