machine translationMy father said: I asked Abū al-Walīd al-Ṭayālisī about this hadith, and he said: "What will you do with this? This is a mistake." We said: "And what is the sound one, Abū al-Walīd?" He said: "What Ḥammād b. Salamah narrated to us, from Thābit, from Ibn ʿUmar b. Abī Salamah, from his father, from Umm Salamah, from the Prophet ﷺ." My father said: I said to him: "Abū Dāwūd al-Ṭayālisī has narrated it from al-Ḥakam," but he paid no attention to it and did not narrate it to us. I said to my father: "And what is the sound one in your view?" He said: "The hadith of ʿUmar b. Abī Salamah." I said: "But Jaʿfar b. Sulaymān narrates it from Thābit, from ʿUmar b. Abī Salamah, and does not say 'from Ibn ʿUmar b. Abī Salamah'." My father said: "Jaʿfar b. Sulaymān omitted a man, and the sound one is the hadith of Ḥammād b. Salamah." It was said to my father: "But ʿAffān narrated from Ḥammād b. Salamah, from Thābit, from Ibn ʿUmar b. Abī Salamah, from his father, from Umm Salamah, part of this hadith." He said: "ʿAffān abridged something of the hadith."
