✧ Anas b. al-Nadr was absent from the fighting at Badr, and he said: I was absent from the first battle in which the Prophet ﷺ fought the polytheists? If God, Blessed and Exalted, lets me witness with the Messenger of God ﷺ a battle, God, Blessed and Exalted, will surely see how I act. On the day of Uhud, the Muslims were exposed, and he said: O God, I declare myself innocent to You of what these have brought — meaning the polytheists — and I apologize to You for what these have done — meaning the Muslims. Then he went forward with his sword, and Sa'd b. Mu'adh met him and said: Where, O Sa'd? By God, I find its scent before Uhud. He said: So he went on and fought. Anas said: We found on him more than eighty wounds, between sword strikes, spear thrusts, and arrow shots, and they mutilated him. He said: We only recognized him by his fingertips. He said: And this verse was revealed: “Among the believers are men who have been true to what they pledged to God.”
