حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مُثَنَّى، نَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ، نَا حُمَيْدٌ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ; أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ:

لَا عَلَيْكُمْ، أَوْ كَلِمَةً نَحْوَهَا، أَنْ تَعْجَبُوا بِأَحَدٍ، أَوْ بِعَمَلِ أَحَدٍ حَتَّى تَنْظُرُوا بِمَ يُخْتَمُ لَهُ ؟ فَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ يَعْمَلُ الْبُرْهَةَ مِنَ الدَّهْرِ الْعَمَلَ الَّذِي لَوْ مَاتَ عَلَيْهِ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ، ثُمَّ يَعْمَلُ بِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ النَّارِ، وَإِنَّ الْعَبْدَ لَيَعْمَلُ الْبُرْهَةَ مِنْ دَهْرِهِ بِالْعَمَلِ الَّذِي لَوْ مَاتَ عَلَيْهِ دَخَلَ النَّارَ، ثُمَّ يَعْمَلُ بِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ.

✧ It is not necessary for you—or a word similar to it—to be impressed by anyone, or by anyone's deeds, until you see what end he meets. For a man may work for a period of time the deeds that, had he died upon them, he would have entered Paradise, then he performs the deeds of the people of the Fire. And a servant may work for a period of his life with deeds that, had he died upon them, he would have entered the Fire, then he performs the deeds of the people of Paradise.
