حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَعْمَرٍ، نَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْحَنَفِيُّ، عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، نَا الزُّهْرِيُّ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ;

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ came to Hamza on the day of Uhud and stood over him, and saw that he had been mutilated. He said: 'Were it not that Safiyya would feel grieved, I would leave him until the wild beasts and birds devour him in their bellies.' Then he called for a striped cloak and shrouded him in it. When it was stretched over his feet, his head was uncovered; and when it was stretched over his head, his feet appeared. He said: The slain were many and the garments were few. He said: Two or three men were shrouded in a single garment, and then buried in one grave. The Messenger of God ﷺ began asking about them: 'Which of them knew more of the Qur'an?' and he would place him first toward the qibla. The Messenger of God ﷺ buried them without praying over them.
