✧ Some people from the Ansar on the day of Hunayn said, when God, Mighty and Majestic, granted His Messenger the spoils of Hawazin, and the Messenger of God ﷺ began giving men from Quraysh a hundred camels each, they said: "May God forgive the Messenger of God; he gives to Quraysh and leaves us while our swords are dripping with their blood." Anas said: The Messenger of God ﷺ was told of their statement, so he sent for the Ansar and gathered them in a leather tent, and no one else was called with them. When they had gathered, the Messenger of God ﷺ came to them and said: "What is this talk that has reached me from you?" The Ansar said: "Those of us with sound judgment said nothing, but some young men among us said such-and-such," referring to this statement. The Prophet ﷺ said: "I give to men whose hearts I seek to win over, while you depart with the Messenger of God ﷺ to your dwellings. By God, what you depart with is better than what they depart with." They said: "Indeed, O Messenger of God." Then the Messenger of God ﷺ said: "You will find, or you will see, after me severe selfishness, so be patient until you meet God and His Messenger, for I will precede you at the Pond." Anas said: We did not endure patiently.
