حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْمُفَضَّلِ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، نَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ الْمُهَلَّبِ، نَا النَّضْرُ بْنُ مُحْرِزٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ:

خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى نَاقَتِهِ الْعَضْبَاءِ وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْجَدْعَاءِ فَقَالَ: يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، كَأَنَّ الْمَوْتَ فِيهَا عَلَى غَيْرِنَا كُتِبَ، وَكَأَنَّ الْحَقَّ فِيهَا عَلَى غَيْرِنَا وَجَبَ، وَكَأَنَّمَا نُشَيِّعُ مِنَ الْمَوْتَى سَفْرٌ عَمَّا قَلِيلٍ إِلَيْنَا رَاجِعُونَ، نُبَوِّئُهُمِ أَجْدَاثَهُمْ وَنَأْكُلُ تُرَاثَهُمْ، كَأَنَّكُمْ مُخَلَّدُونَ بَعْدَهُمْ قَدْ نَسِيتُمْ كُلَّ وَاعِظَةٍ وَأَمِنْتُمْ كُلَّ جَائِحَةٍ، طُوبَى لِمَنْ شَغَلَهُ عَيْبُهُ عَنْ عُيُوبِ النَّاسِ وَتَوَاضَعَ لِلهِ فِي غَيْرِ مَنْقَصَةٍ وَأَنْفَقَ مِنْ مَالٍ جَمَعَهُ فِي غَيْرِ مَعْصِيَةٍ وَخَالَطَ أَهْلَ الْفِقْهِ وَجَانَبَ أَهْلَ الشَّكِّ وَالْبِدْعَةِ وَصَلَحَتْ عَلَانِيَتُهُ وَعَزَلَ النَّاسَ مِنْ شَرِّهِ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us on his she-camel al-Adba', which was not al-Jad'a', and said: O people, it is as if death in this world has been decreed for others besides us, and as if the truth in it has become binding upon others besides us, and as if the dead we escort are travelers who will return to us after a short while. We settle them in their graves and consume their inheritance, as if you will live forever after them. You have forgotten every admonition and felt secure from every calamity. Glad tidings to the one whose own fault distracts him from the faults of others, who humbles himself before Allah without any deficiency, who spends from wealth he gathered without disobedience, who mixes with people of understanding and avoids people of doubt and innovation, whose outward conduct is sound, and who keeps people safe from his evil.
