حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ، قَالَ: نَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: نَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْقَطَّانُ، قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ حَرْمَلَةَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ، قَالَ:
اجْتَمَعَ عَلِيٌّ، وَعُثْمَانُ ؓ فَكَانَ عُثْمَانُ يَنْهَى عَنِ الْمُتْعَةِ، وَعَلِيٌّ يَأْمُرُ بِهَا، فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ: مَا تُرِيدُ إِلَى هَذَا ؟ فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ ؓ: هَذَا شَيْءٌ فَعَلَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا أَدَعُهُ.

✧ Ali and Uthman ؓ met, and Uthman was prohibiting mut'a while Ali was commanding it. Uthman said: What do you want with this? Ali ؓ said: This is something the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did, and I will not abandon it.
