حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْجَوْهَرِيُّ، قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، قَالَ: نَا مُجَالِدٌ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:

مَثَلُ الَّذِي يَتَكَلَّمُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَالْإِمَامُ يَخْطُبُ مَثَلُ الْحِمَارِ يَحْمِلُ أَسْفَارًا

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. Ibrāhīm b. Saʿīd al-Jawharī
  2. ʿAbdullāh b. Numayr
  3. Mujālid
  4. al-Shaʿbī
  5. Ibn ʿAbbās
  6. Rasūl Allāh ﷺ

✧ The likeness of the one who speaks on Friday while the imam is delivering the sermon is the likeness of a donkey carrying books.
