حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ، قَالَ: نَا أُمَيَّةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، قَالَ: نَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِيمَا أَحْسَبُ، الشَّكُّ فِي الْحَدِيثِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ

كَانَ بِمَكَّةَ فَقَرَأَ سُورَةَ النَّجْمِ حَتَّى انْتَهَى إِلَى: أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ اللاتَ وَالْعُزَّى وَمَنَاةَ الثَّالِثَةَ الأُخْرَى، فَجَرَى عَلَى لِسَانِهِ: تِلْكَ الْغَرَانِيقُ الْعُلَا الشَّفَاعَةُ مِنْهَا تُرْتَجَى. قَالَ: فَسَمِعَ ذَلِكَ مُشْرِكِي أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ فَسُرُّوا بِذَلِكَ فَاشْتَدَّ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى: وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِكَ مِنْ رَسُولٍ وَلا نَبِيٍّ إِلا إِذَا تَمَنَّى أَلْقَى الشَّيْطَانُ فِي أُمْنِيَّتِهِ فَيَنْسَخُ اللهُ مَا يُلْقِي الشَّيْطَانُ ثُمَّ يُحْكِمُ اللهُ آيَاتِهِ

✧ He was in Makkah and recited Surah al-Najm until he reached: 'Have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza and Manat, the third, the other?' Then it slipped onto his tongue: 'Those are the high gharaniq; their intercession is to be hoped for.' He said: The idolaters of the people of Makkah heard that and were pleased by it. That was hard on the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so Allah, blessed and exalted is He, sent down: 'And We did not send before you any messenger or prophet except that when he wished, Satan cast into his wish. But Allah abolishes what Satan casts, then Allah establishes His verses.'
