✧ I was with the Prophet ﷺ when news reached him that a woman of the Ansar had lost a son and was grieving for him. The Prophet of Allah ﷺ stood up with his companions. When he reached the woman's door, it was said to her, "The Prophet of Allah ﷺ wants to enter to console you." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered and said, "I have heard that you are grieving over your son." She said, "O Prophet of Allah, why should I not grieve? I am a woman bereaved of children; no child of mine lives." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The truly bereaved is the one whose children live. No Muslim woman or Muslim man loses three children—or he said, three of offspring—and seeks reward for it, except that Paradise becomes obligatory for them." Umar ؓ, who was on the right of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, said, "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you—and two?" The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said, "And two."
