✧ The Prophet ﷺ was leading us in prayer, and al-Hasan b. ʿAlī, who was young, would come and, whenever the Prophet ﷺ prostrated, he would climb onto his neck and back. The Prophet would raise his head gently until he put him down. They said: "O Messenger of Allah, you do something with this boy that we have not seen you do with anyone." He said: "He is my fragrant basil in this world. This son of mine is a sayyid, and perhaps Allah will bring about reconciliation through him between two factions of the Muslims."

machine translationAḥmad b. ʿAbd al-Ṣamad al-Nahrawānī, who is well known and unobjectionable, narrated it from Ibn ʿUyaynah, from Ayyūb, from al-Ḥasan, but he erred in it. Rather, Ibn ʿUyaynah narrated it from Abū Mūsā Isrāʾīl, from al-Ḥasan, from Abū Bakrah. Likewise Yūnus, Manṣūr and ʿAmr b. ʿUbayd narrated it from al-Ḥasan, and that is the established version.
