حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ: نَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ قَالَ: نَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ؓ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ

" أَنَّ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ قَالَ: اقْرَأِ الْقُرْآنَ عَلَى حَرْفٍ فَاسْتَزَادَهُ، فَقَالَ: عَلَى حَرْفَيْنِ فَاسْتَزَادَهُ حَتَّى بَلَغَ سَبْعَةَ أَحْرُفٍ كُلٌّ شَافٍ كَافٍ كَقَوْلِكَ هَلُمَّ وَأَقْبِلْ

Translation

✧ Gabriel ﷺ said: "Recite the Qurʾān in one ḥarf." He asked for more, so he said: "In two ḥarfs." He kept asking for more until he reached seven ḥarfs, each one sufficient and complete, like your saying 'come here' and 'approach.'
