✧ The first hadith of Abu Musa

أَخْبَرَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ أَخْزَمَ الطَّائِيُّ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْقَاهِرِ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ حَسَّانَ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى - ؓ

أَنَّهُ اسْتَأْذَنَ عَلَى عُمَرَ ثَلَاثًا، فَلَمْ يُؤْذَنْ لَهُ، وَكَانَ مَشْغُولًا، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ قَالَ: أَلَمْ أَسْمَعْ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ قَيْسٍ أَوْ صَوْتَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ائْذَنُوا لَهُ، قِيلَ: رَجَعَ، قَالَ: ادْعُوهُ، فَجَاءَ فَقَالَ: كُنَّا نُؤْمَرُ بِذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ لَنَا: ائْتِنِي عَلَى ذَلِكَ بِبَيِّنَةٍ فَأَتَى أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ فَشَهِدَ لَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: " الِاسْتِئْذَانُ ثَلَاثًا

✧ He asked permission to enter upon 'Umar three times, but permission was not granted to him, and he was busy. When he finished, he said: Did I not hear 'Abd Allah b. Qays, or the voice of 'Abd Allah b. Qays? Give him permission. It was said: He has gone back. He said: Call him. He came and said: We were commanded to do that. He said to us: Bring me proof of that. He went to Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, and he testified for him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Asking permission is three times.
