✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered a walled garden in Madinah, wrapped himself in his garment, and I locked the gate—I think he said: behind him. A man came and knocked on the gate, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "O 'Abd Allah b. Qays, open for him and give him glad tidings of Paradise." I opened it and it was Abu Bakr. I said: "Rejoice! May Allah and His Messenger give you glad tidings; rejoice in Paradise." He entered, praised Allah, and sat down. Then another man came and knocked on the gate, so he said: "O 'Abd Allah, open for him and give him glad tidings of Paradise." I opened it and it was 'Umar. I said: "Rejoice! May Allah and His Messenger give you glad tidings; rejoice in Paradise." He praised Allah and sat down. Then another man came and knocked on the gate, so he said: "O 'Abd Allah b. Qays, open for him and give him glad tidings of Paradise, and he will meet and will meet [tribulation]." It was 'Uthman. I said: "Rejoice! May Allah and His Messenger give you glad tidings of Paradise." He praised Allah and sat down. Then he said: "What is this word that you said to me and did not say to my two companions?"
