✧ There was a dispute between this tribe and the Ash'aris, so we were with Abu Musa. Food containing chicken meat was brought to him, and with him was a man from Banu Taym Allah, reddish as if he were from the clients. He called him to the food, but the man said: 'I saw it eating something, so I found it disgusting, and I swore not to eat it.' Abu Musa said: 'Come, let me tell you about that. I came to the Messenger of God ﷺ with a group of Ash'aris asking him to provide us mounts. He said: By God, I will not provide you mounts, and I have nothing to mount you on. Then some camels were brought to the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he asked about us, saying: Where are the Ash'ari group? He ordered for us five young camels with white humps. When we returned, we said: The Messenger of God ﷺ swore not to mount us and had nothing to mount us on, yet he mounted us. We overlooked the Messenger of God's ﷺ oath; by God, we will never succeed. So we went back to him and said: We asked you to mount us, and you swore not to mount us, but you mounted us. He said: I did not mount you; rather God mounted you. By God, I do not swear an oath and then see something better than it except that I do what is better and expiate my oath.'
