✧ Abū Mūsā sought permission to enter upon ʿUmar three times, but he was not granted permission, as he was busy. When he finished, he said: 'Did I not hear ʿAbd Allah b. Qays? Let him enter.' It was said: 'He has gone back.' He said: 'Call him.' So he said: 'We were commanded to do that.' He said: 'You must bring clear proof for that.' He went to a gathering of the Anṣār, and they said: 'No one will testify for you except the youngest among us, Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī.' So he testified for him. Then ʿUmar said: 'Was this matter of the Messenger of God ﷺ hidden from me? The bargaining in the markets distracted me. But ask of me whatever you wish, and do not seek permission.'
