حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا سَعْدُ بْنُ أَوْسٍ، عَنْ بِلَالِ بْنِ يَحْيَى، قَالَ:

لَمَّا قُتِلَ عُثْمَانُ ؓ، أَتَى حُذَيْفَةُ فَقِيلَ: يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ، قُتِلَ هَذَا الرَّجُلُ فَقَدِ اخْتَلَفَ النَّاسُ فَمَا تَقُولُ ؟ فَقَالَ: أَسْنِدُونِي فَأَسْنَدُوهُ إِلَى صَدْرِ رَجُلٍ، فَقَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: أَبُو الْيَقْظَانِ عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ أَبُو الْيَقْظَانِ عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ لَا يَدَعُهَا حَتَّى يَمُوتَ أَوْ يَمَسَّهُ الْهَرَمُ

Translation

✧ When 'Uthman ؓ was killed, Hudhayfah was approached and it was said: "O Abu 'Abd Allah, this man has been killed, and the people have differed. What do you say?" He said: "Support me." So they supported him against a man's chest, and he said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Abu al-Yaqzan is upon the natural disposition; Abu al-Yaqzan is upon the natural disposition. He will not abandon it until he dies or old age touches him.'"
